Michael Rey de Leon

Michael Rey de Leon oversees the A/V needs of Studio 919, as well as assisting the Tribune on-location for the Tribune’s ongoing event series. Michael Rey joined the Texas Tribune in 2018 after spending years in the field working for media organizations including CBS, MTV, SXSW, Billboard Live, The Hype Machine, Gimlet, Environmental Defense Fund and as an A/V engineer at the Ernest & Sarah Butler School of Music at The University of Texas at Austin. A sixth-generation Texan, with familial roots in the Rio Grande Valley, Michael Rey is also an accomplished multi-instrumentalist, who has worked with a myriad of music recording artists and toured the world as a member of Let’s Go Bowling, Cherry Poppin’ Daddies, Sweet & Tender Hooligans and Austin’s own Riders Against the Storm. When he’s not wrapping cables, Michael Rey dedicates his time to his family, collecting guitars, making art, cooking and traveling.
