Inside Texas Politics: The Quest for Hot Sauce

On this week's edition of WFAA-TV's Inside Texas Politics, I talked with host Jason Whitely and the Fort Worth Star-Telegram's Bud Kennedy about state Sen. Ken Paxton's ethics filings, Gov. Rick Perry, Rosemary Lehmberg and more.

Texas Tribune Executive Editor Ross Ramsey on WFAA-TV's "Inside Texas Politics" on April 27, 2014.

On this week's edition of WFAA-TV's Inside Texas Politics, I talked with host Jason Whitely and the Fort Worth Star-Telegram's Bud Kennedy about state Sen. Ken Paxton, R-Dallas, whose lapses in filings to the Texas Ethics Commission and questions around financial services he provided without always being registered with the State Securities Board were detailed in a Texas Tribune story last week. We also talked about the grand jury investigation looking into Gov. Rick Perry's apparent attempts — before and after her conviction for DUI — to dislodge Travis County District Attorney Rosemary Lehmberg from office. State Rep. Jason Villalba will lead a delegation to California to woo a beleaguered hot sauce manufacturer, the sort of nonpolitical fight politicians love, and we talked about the latest on the GOP runoff for lieutenant governor between incumbent David Dewhurst and state Sen. Dan Patrick.

Also: Jason and Bud interview former state Rep. Mark Shelton and Konni Burton, who are facing each other in the Republican runoff for the state Senate seat vacated by Democrat Wendy Davis; in an opinion piece, commenter Mercedes Olivera wonders "¿Dónde está Wendy?" in relation to Davis' Hispanic outreach; Jason interviews U.S. Rep Marc Veasey, D-Dallas, about his recent job shadowings — recently, the congressman's been working in a bakery and riding along in a UPS van; and the U.S. Supreme Court decision regarding affirmative action in Michigan is debated from the left and the right.
