2010: Spending Spree [Updated]

It was a short period, but the money flew out of the gubernatorial candidates' campaign treasuries, according to the latest ethics filings. The campaigns are required to file finance reports with the Texas Ethics Commission eight days before an election; they were due Monday, with the election set for next Tuesday.

Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison's full report isn't yet available, but aides say she'll report raising about $1.1 million, spending $8 million and will have about $2.3 million on hand as of Saturday. In her last report, with 30 days to go before the March 2 primary, she had $10 million in the bank. Gov. Rick Perry's eight-day report isn't yet available, either, but his aides say he raised $852,451, spent $8.8 million, and had $2.5 million left  in the bank.
