"Where is my son?": A migrant father was deported in May. His son is still in a Texas shelter.

David Xol and his 7-year-old son, Byron, spent three days in a wooden crate on their way to the U.S. in May. After being separated from his son at the border, Xol was sent back to a remote village in the highlands of Guatemala. He has no idea when Byron is coming home.

State Board of Education member Ruben Cortez, a Democrat, spoke at a rally outside the offices of the Texas Education Agency to call for a newly approved course to be named Mexican-American Studies. The State Board of Education heard public testimony on the matter later on Tuesday.

“Names are important”: Texas activists protest the renaming of “Mexican-American Studies” course to “Ethnic Studies”

Republican State Board of Education member David Bradley proposed the new course title in April, saying he found "hyphenated Americanism to be divisive.” On Tuesday, another board member, Democrat Ruben Cortez, called Bradley “the most mean-spirited” person on the board.
