The Playlist: Going Back

Phil Collins delivered his private collection of more than 200 artifacts tied to the 1836 Battle of the Alamo to its new home in San Antonio this week, so we begin our news-inspired playlist with his song "Going Back."

Phil Collins delivered his private collection of more than 200 artifacts tied to the 1836 Battle of the Alamo to its new home in San Antonio this week, so we begin our news-inspired playlist with his song "Going Back."

The easiest way to enjoy the playlist is to download Spotify, a free program. But even without it, you can still follow along. Here are the other selections for the week:

The Tribune launched its Shale Life Project about what it is like for people who live where oil and gas production is booming, which we mark with John Lee Hooker's "Boom Boom." Next up is "The Apologist" by R.E.M., which refers to Republican Party of Texas Chairman Steve Munisteri's decision to issue a rare retraction of a previous campaign mailer to voters in North Texas.

The Trib's Neena Satija noted that the once-obscure General Land Office will attract national attention if and when George P. Bush, nephew of former president George W. Bush, runs it, so we have "All Eyes on You" by St. Lucia. The younger Bush also told ABC News this week that it was "more than likely" that his father, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, will make a 2016 run for the White House. So, we added "Dreams of Our Fathers" by the Dave Matthews Band.

In a speech in California, Gov. Rick Perry called for a "clean break" from the Obama era. "A Clean Break" is a song by The Talking Heads, and it is the next one on our playlist. In an interview on The Daily Show, Democratic gubernatorial nominee Wendy Davis insisted that a blue Texas is "on its way," so we have Eiffel 65's "Blue (Da Ba Dee)."

While the outcome of most races seem predetermined as Election Day draws near, some House districts, like HD-105 and HD-23, are still political battlegrounds, so we have "Battleground" by Slash featuring Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators.

Then we have "Spicy Brown" by Third Coast Kings as a nod to the Green Party nominee for U.S. Senate, Emily "SpicyBrown" Sanchez, who was profiled by the Trib's John Reynolds. And because our Ross Ramsey wrote about candidates putting their best faces forward in the final days of the campaign, we close with Tony Bennett and James Taylor singing "Put On a Happy Face."

Enjoy!
