State Rep. Lois Kolkhorst, R-Brenham, released on Friday her first TV ad in her campaign for Senate District 18, focusing on border security. In a statement, her campaign describes border security as "the most important issue on the mind of voters."
There is currently no vacancy for that particular Senate seat. But its current occupant, Glenn Hegar, R-Katy, is in the running to become the state's next comptroller. Should he win, it's expected he would resign at some point between Election Day and January. That action would trigger a special election, the timing of which would be in the governor's hands.
Senate District 18 encompasses all or parts of 21 counties in Southeast Texas, stretching from Brenham and western Harris County in the north to Victoria and Rockport in the south.
