Jim Hogan, the Democratic candidate for Texas agriculture commissioner, is staying true to a major campaign promise: that he won't accept donations.

That’s according to the candidate’s latest report to the Texas Ethics Commission. Hogan did not raise or spend any money from July 1 though Oct. 4, according to the report, and he has no cash on hand or outstanding loans.

Hogan is running against Republican Sid Miller, a former state representative. As of Monday afternoon, the Texas Ethics Commission had not yet published Miller’s latest filing.

Hogan, a Cleburne dairy farmer and insurance salesman, became an object of fascination in Austin after he defeated Kinky Friedman, a well-known musician, in the party’s May runoff. Hogan told the Tribune on election night that he was “just making stew” and not watching the returns.

In previous interviews, he said “it’d be silly to raise money” and has suggested that he needs no campaign website because "somebody's going to Google you anyway."
