Deuell Endorses Patrick Over Dewhurst
State Sen. Dan Patrick, R-Houston, on Wednesday picked up an endorsement from state Sen. Bob Deuell, R-Greenville, who chose his Senate colleague over incumbent David Dewhurst in the Republican runoff for lieutenant governor.
Deuell is in a runoff of his own, against challenger Bob Hall, after falling 1.5 percentage points short of an outright win in the primary. Patrick has not endorsed in that race.
Sens. Donna Campbell of New Braunfels and Charles Schwertner of Georgetown have endorsed Patrick, as have three Republican nominees for Senate seats: Don Huffines of Dallas, Paul Bettencourt of Houston and Van Taylor of Plano.
Deuell's full statement:
Today, I am joining Republican leaders across Texas in endorsing my friend and State Senate colleague Dan Patrick for Lt. Governor. Dan and I both currently serve as Republican State Senate Committee Chairmen and have worked together in the trenches for Texas conservative values and individual liberties. As a family physician, former school board member, and past Chairman of the Texas State Senate Republican Caucus, I commend Lt. Governor Dewhurst for his past leadership, but now endorse Dan in the runoff for Lt. Governor. The trench-savvy conservative convictions Senator Patrick and I both share will expand the horizon for a successful Texas.
