The latest in the ad wars between Bill Flores and U.S. Rep. Chet Edwards, D-Waco — a nationally watched race — is a spot from the GOP challenger featuring U.S. Sen. John McCain, R-Arizona. The former presidential candidate praises Flores' devotion to veterans and says his "ideas to improve veterans’ health care are exactly the same as mine." The ad seems to come in response to two recent ads from Edwards. Edwards attacked Flores over his support for allowing veterans to use their benefits to purchase private-sector treatment. It begins running today in Waco and Bryan-College Station.

McCain: “Campaigns can get rough — nobody knows that better than I do.

“But the facts are still what counts. Here’s the fact about Bill Flores:

“He’s a patriotic American who’s proven he’s devoted to taking care of our veterans.

“And Bill’s ideas to improve veterans’ health care are exactly the same as mine.

“Congressman Edwards, facts are stubborn things. Texans deserve better. Texans deserve Bill Flores.”

Flores: “I’m Bill Flores, and I approve this message.”
