Representative Ken Paxton

Rep. Ken Paxton, R-McKinney, is not, Not, NOT running against Sen. Florence Shapiro, R-Plano, in spite of reports that he was planning a challenge. He's interested if she moves on, but not if she's staying. And with U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison's resignation on hold, Shapiro's bid for Hutchison's seat is on hold. And now, Paxton's on hold, too.

"I have made no announcement that I will run for the State Senate.

Similar to Senator Florence Shapiro having established an exploratory committee to run for the United States Senate seat she expects Senator Hutchison to vacate, I am exploring possibilities concerning the State Senate seat Senator Shapiro may vacate to run for U.S. Senate.

Given the likelihood that a statewide campaign will create a vacancy in Senate District 8, many people have encouraged me to be a candidate for the Texas Senate. I am humbled and encouraged by the response I have received over the past several months."
