Initiatives to Counteract Childhood Poverty with Holistic Education

Rather than stick to the typical strategy of relying on schools to act as the sole countermeasure to childhood poverty, two K-12 initiatives are setting out to popularize a more holistic approach. The first program is partnering with six cities nationwide to link public agencies and services to schools, families and communities. The second initiative targets low-income students and advocates for interventions like early-childhood learning, after-school and summer programs. (Education Week)
