While the head of Chicago Public Schools, Forrest Claypool, struggles to compensate for a $480 million budget deficit, the city's teachers union has rallied its supporters to protest against potential layoffs. Blaming an unsustainable pension system, Claypool has agreed to negotiations with union leaders. Both parties are aiming for a Feb. 1 deadline to solidify a new teacher contract to replace the one that expired in June of last year. (Chicago Sun-Times)
