Exercise: Can There Be Too Much for the Human Heart?

Medical science has long promoted the benefits of exercise for good health.

Since the passage of a 2007 law allowing state employees a 30-minute exercise break three times per week, state agencies have begun offering lunchtime workout programs. Last month, the Texas Department of Public Safety took home the "fittest large agency" prize in the state's GetFitTexas challenge.

Medical science has long promoted the benefits of exercise for good health. But can long-term endurance exercise actually cause damage to the heart? Researchers will try to find out by monitoring a swimmer on a 5,500 journey across the Pacific Ocean.(KERA)
