Researchers have reported that combining iodized table salt with chloraminated tap water  – water with the disinfectant chloramine added – in cooking may result in a toxin known as hypoiodous acid. The acid may then react with other substances in the food and water to create toxic byproducts, some of which are new to scientists, said the researchers, who reported their findings in the journal Water Research.
