Recent scholarship estimates that approximately 3 million K-12 students could be considered academically gifted and talented, although the definition of students who qualifies varies drastically. Standards for teaching gifted students vary state to state, but experts point to a general shift in ideology. A dynamic method of evaluating learners throughout their public education could afford students the chance to be challenged when they exceed grade-level standards. (NPR)
