Alabama Enforces Teaching of Evolution, Climate Change

In a state where only 21 percent of 10th graders meet or exceed national science competency standards, new standards in Alabama require schools to instruct students on theories of evolution and climate change. The change is the first update to state’s science standards since 2005. While textbooks can still be labeled with stickers warning readers of controversial content, students will be required to use scientific evidence and analysis, a move requiring shifts in teaching methods and instructional supports.
