Hays County Plan to Pump Trinity Aquifer Prompts Opposition

Public opposition is growing to a deal by Houston-based firm Electro Purification to pump as much as 5.3 million gallons of water a day from the Trinity Aquifer.

As public opposition grows to a deal by Houston-based firm Electro Purification to pump as much as 5.3 million gallons of water a day from the Trinity Aquifer, in an area in Central Texas unregulated by groundwater districts, state Rep. Jason Isaac, R-Dripping Springs, has filed a bill that would create a five-mile buffer around all groundwater conservation districts. The bill would also require commercial well operators to get approval from the Texas Water Development Board. Isaac also signaled he would file legislation to bring the wells into either the Hays Trinity district or the nearby Barton Springs/Edwards Aquifer Conservation District. (Austin American-Statesman)
