RSV: The Respiratory Virus Most Have Never Heard of

It’s flu season, but influenza is not the only threat that should worry parents of infants and young children. RSV, short for respiratory syncytial virus, can get into the lungs and lead to a lower respiratory tract infection. Children may have trouble breathing, and RSV is the most common cause of hospitalization in children nationwide, according to Dr. Jeffrey Kahn, a professor of pediatrics and microbiology at the UT Southwestern Medical Center.
