Democrat Libby Willis received on Thursday the endorsement of Texas Parent PAC in her bid to win the open seat for Senate District 10 in Tarrant County.

"Libby Willis is a respected leader who has worked for 30 years to improve her community and region," said PAC board member Ellen Jones in a statement. "In the Senate, Libby will work collaboratively to address critical issues like education, water, and transportation."

Willis is a Fort Worth community leader and is the daughter-in-law of former state lawmaker Doyle Willis. She won a contested Democratic primary to earn her party's nomination to succeed Wendy Davis, who is running for governor. Willis is competing against the Republican candidate and Tea Party favorite, Konni Burton, in the general election.

Senate District 10 is considered the sole swing seat in the Texas Senate.

Texas Parent PAC was created in 2005 with the goal of electing more public education-oriented lawmakers. The group has a history in the area. One of its first high-profile endorsements was Diane Patrick who won the House District 94 GOP primary in 2006 over incumbent Kent Grusendorf, who had chaired the House Public Education in the 2005 legislative session. House District 94 is located almost entirely within SD-10.
