Lieutenant Governor Candidates Settle Debate Plans

Lieutenant governor candidates Dan Patrick and Leticia Van de Putte will face off in a televised statewide debate on September 29 at 7 p.m., sponsored by The Texas Tribune, Austin's KLRU-TV and Univision.

Lieutenant governor candidates Dan Patrick and Leticia Van de Putte will face off in a televised statewide debate on September 29 at 7 p.m., sponsored by The Texas Tribune, Austin's KLRU-TV and Univision. There won't be a studio audience but an internet live stream will be available in addition to the broadcast on TV stations around the state. 

The candidates agreed to a one-hour debate moderated by Tribune Executive Editor Ross Ramsey that will be kicked off with a coin toss. The candidates agreed to a formal debate: Both will stand and their responses and rebuttals will be timed with lights visible to both the candidates and the on-air audience. 

This is the only debate both candidates have agreed to, although several other proposals have been offered for dates between now and Election Day.
