Collier Ad Faults Hegar on Education Funding

In a new online ad, Mike Collier, the Democratic candidate for comptroller, says his Republican opponent, Glenn Hegar, is "proud to cut our public schools."

Hegar, a state senator from Katy, was among lawmakers who voted in favor of the 2011 budget, which cut education spending by $5.4 billion. The ad features a clip from an interview by the Montgomery County Tea Party last year, in which Hegar discusses the vote and says, "I was proud that we did not" put more money into education. 

In an email, David White, a Hegar campaign spokesman, accused Collier of running a negative campaign and said, "As a father of three children in public schools, Senator Hegar believes in adequately funding our education system. Providing innovative ways to educate our children is vital to the success of our state."
