Researchers Find Chemical in Plastic Changes Turtles' Hormones

Researchers have found that bisphenol A, a chemical that is used in plastics and finds its way into our waters, can influence the hormones of turtles that are exposed to it. When they exposed turtle eggs to the chemical, they found that male turtles developed sex organs that were more like female reproductive organs than those of males. The researchers said these environmental issues not only affect wildlife, but that similar effects on humans are possible. (St. Louis Post-Dispatch)
