Texas Legislators Consider Expanding Desalination

Members of the Texas Legislature's Joint Interim Committee to Study Water Desalination convened on Monday to discuss the pros and cons of expanding the expensive process of desalination to deal with the growing need for new water sources. According to the Texas Water Development Board, the output of the state's current 46 desalination plants will not be adequate to meet the growing demand for water. According to the TWDB, only a third of potential additional water will come from new sources, while a third will come from conservation and a third from using current water sources more effectively.
