Senator Ken Paxton speaks to supporters in Plano on Thursday, August 1, 2013, to announcement his campaign for Attorney General.

The Ken Paxton campaign announced on Monday that he's won the support of the nation's largest gun-rights group and its state affiliate in Texas in his bid to be the next attorney general.

The endorsements by the political arms of the National Rifle Association and the Texas State Rifle Association "cement his position as the conservative candidate in the May 27 runoff," according to a statement from the Paxton campaign.

Paxton entered the runoff race after having bested his opponent, Dan Branch, by 11 points in the party primary election. But the Paxton campaign has hit headwinds in recent days after news reports of his failure to disclose his work as an investment adviser solicitor. On Friday, he was reprimanded and fined $1,000 by the Texas State Securities Board.
