Canseco Will Try to Win His Seat Back

Francisco "Quico" Canseco, who rode the 2010 Tea Party wave to victory in CD-23, wants a shot at regaining the seat he lost last year to Democrat Pete Gallego.

Canseco confirmed with The Texas Tribune that he filed his candidacy papers in Austin on Monday, the deadline to do so. He said that one of the lessons he learned from the last election is that he will need to move quickly to let voters know who he is and not allow his opponents to define him. He said he planned to announce his first round of endorsements before the end of December.

To get to that rematch with Gallego, Canseco will first need to secure his party's nomination where at least two people — Will Hurd and Robert Lowry — had already filed to run. Hurd has already gone up with a a web ad featuring his SUV named Shirley Marie.
