Agenda Texas: Discussing Budget Priorities
Texas lawmakers cut $15 billion from the state budget in 2011. This session, they had an $8 billion surplus to work with, along with billions more in expected revenue over the next two years.
Lawmakers didn't agree on whether to quickly restore the 2011 cuts or on investments in state infrastructure like roads and water. Tea Party Republicans, like state Rep. Van Taylor, R-Plano, spent much of the session pushing for tighter budget constraints and tax cuts. He discussed his budget philosophy this session with Agenda Texas.
