LCRA to Release Water to Preserve Fish Habitat

Due to drought conditions, the Lower Colorado River Authority plans to release water from the Highland Lakes to preserve the habitat of the endangered blue sucker.

Due to drought conditions, the Lower Colorado River Authority plans to release water from the Highland Lakes to preserve the habitat of the blue sucker, an endangered fish that spawns in areas of the Colorado River between Eagle Lake and Bastrop. As Asher Price reports in the Austin American-Statesman, the LCRA may release more than 20,000 acre-feet of water over the next month — the equivalent of about 60,000 households' water needs for a whole year.
