New in The Texas Tribune:

  • Rep. Beck Battles School Board President in HD-57: "State Rep. Marva Beck, R-Centerville, faces a stiff GOP primary challenge in HD-57 from Trent Ashby, the president of the school board in Lufkin, where because of redistricting, she is seen as the 'new kid on the block.' But she has racked up endorsements from Gov. Rick Perry and other statewide officials."

  • Leppert keeps it light, mocks puffed-up Dewhurst, pouty Cruz, fumbling James (The Dallas Morning News): "In the latest Leppert spot by GOP ad man Scott Howell of Dallas, his 'empty suit' opponents have left the rack and are now cavorting. … A Leppert press release says Leppert's rivals are 'professional politicians and empty suits who are choosing to sling mud at each other rather than offer serious solutions to the nation's problems.' The ad, however, doesn't depict them as feuding but as, well, sort of silly bystanders. Which may be the point."
