Earlier today, his last day as mayor of Dallas, Tom Leppert announced that he is indeed running for U.S. Senate.

The Republican also released a lengthy (as in, more than three minutes) video on YouTube explaining why he's doing it.

Accompanied by a contemplative string arrangement, Leppert explains that the country today is "less competitive than it used to be," which he believes he can change because he's "a true Texas conservative."
