Charles Perry is on his way to the Texas House, having defeated state Rep. Delwin Jones, R-Lubbock, and fellow Republican John Frullo won the GOP nomination for an open seat in his predominantly Republican district. Perry has no opposition in November. Frullo will face Democrat Carol Morgan.

Both beat establishment efforts. Perry knocked off an incumbent who's held office continuously since 1989 and who was a state represenative in the 1960s as well. Frullo, who like Perry is new to electoral politics, beat a former school board president and Texas Tech regent who had the support of the area's state senator and other elected officials. He was the hand-picked candidate of incumbent state Rep. Carl Isett, R-Lubbock, who isn't seeking another term.
