Farming Under Fire: The Texas Guard in Afghanistan

Defense Secretary Robert Gates continued his tour of Afghanistan this week, saying NATO may turn over security to Afghan troops earlier than expected.  Afghan President Hamid Karzai is planning a conference in Kabul next month on reintegrating Taliban militants into civilian life.

That’s a goal a group of Texas soldiers has been working toward for months. The Texas National Guard Agribusiness Development Team, or ADT, is helping farmers and herdsmen in eastern Afghanistan disassociate from the Taliban.

In the last of KUT Radio's reports on the Texas ADT, Douglas Wissing has the story of a devastating attack on the team — from which it was hard to recover.
