2010: Newspaper Endorsements: EPT for KBH, White, Kinky

The El Paso Times backs the favorite gubernatorial candidates of edit boards elsewhere and makes its pick in the anybody's-guess Democratic primary for Ag Commissioner.

Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison and Houston mayor Bill White.

The El Paso Times has endorsed Kay Bailey Hutchison and Bill White in their respective primaries for governor.

Hutchison:

[Her] tenure in the U.S. Senate gives her valuable political connections inside the Beltway that could prove valuable for Texas. She has been a particular friend of El Paso, playing important roles in the BRAC expansion of Fort Bliss and acquiring funding for the desalination plant named in her honor.

White:

If he can bring to the governorship the successes he rang up as mayor of Houston, not the least of which was multiple instances of cutting taxes, he'll help Texas. If elected, he will be confronting the state's severe financial problems, and he should be more than equal to the task.

The EPT is also supporting Kinky Friedman over Hank Gilbert in the Democratic primary for Agriculture Commissioner:

[He] would bring a Texas-maverick personality and outlook to the rather colorless post and bring attention to Texas agriculture.

And personality aside, he has some good ideas when it comes to such matters as animal rescue and biomass and bioenergy projects. He's also keen on going after grants in various areas, something important in a money-tight Texas and nation. Also, he wants to market Texas agriculture in new ways.

Texans need truth. Help us report it.
