Roger Williams "Welcomes" Obama to Texas

President Barack Obama will be in Texas today for a fundraising event, and at least one Republican running for U.S. Senate, former Texas Secretary of State Roger Williams is eager to welcome him to the state — sort of. He's using the opportunity to launch a new website and video comparing "the Obama economy" to "the Williams economy."

"We're going to talk about not just what he's doing, but why he's doing it," Williams told the Tribune, noting that this push would continue even after Obama's departure. "There's a lot to talk about and a lot to stop."

Williams says the video and the website — www.theobamaeconomy.com — outlines Obama's "deliberate plan to take over this country," specifically in the areas of energy, health care, unemployment and spending. 

Of the differences between Obama's goals and his own, Williams said, "He visualizes the United States of France. I visualize the United States of America." He said he particularly opposes Obama's "social justice" agenda, which he calls "very European" and views as antithetical to capitalism.

Williams he hopes to highlight such issues because they distinguish himself from the rest of the large pack of candidates that current Republican U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison will be vacating in 2012. "I'm the only one in the race that owns my own business," said Williams, who owns a car dealership. "As a business guy, I'm really worried about what this guy's doing to the economy."
