Republican state lawmakers are redrawing Texas’ congressional districts in a bid to pick up five additional seats for the GOP. House Democrats left the state for two weeks to prevent the lower chamber from voting on the proposed map, but they have since returned to the Capitol. The unusual mid-decade redistricting comes after a pressure campaign waged by President Donald Trump’s political team, which hopes to pad Republicans' narrow majority in the U.S. House.
