New data released by the U.S. Department of Education illuminates stunning gains in high school graduation rates. Reaching an all-time high national rate of 81 percent, this 2012-13 achievement marker indicated gains for students of color and a measurable step toward reducing opportunity and achievement gaps. Texas beat the national average with 88 percent — only a few points behind Iowa, in first place with 90 percent. (U.S. News & World Report)
