Sierra Blanca, Texas, appears to be bad luck for musicians.
Rapper and part-time actor Snoop Dogg, whose real name is Calvin Broadus Jr., was arrested early Saturday after agents at the West Texas Border Patrol checkpoint found marijuana in the singer’s tour bus. U.S. Border Patrol officials arrested him, and Hudspeth County sheriff’s deputies subsequently issued Broadus a citation, the El Paso Times reported.
The amount of pot recovered was about .13 pounds — a small amount considering Broadus’ well-known affinity for the drug. CNN reports that Snoop Dogg has a prescription for medical marijuana in California.
His arrest marks the second time in a little more than a year that a famous musician was arrested at the checkpoint on a charge of marijuana possession. In late 2010, country music legend Willie Nelson was arrested there after authorities found about six ounces of pot in his tour bus. Nelson’s arrest caused a bit of a stir after the judge in his case threw out a plea agreement — that Nelson sing “Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain” and mail in a small fine — after deciding it reeked of preferential treatment.
Broadus was ordered to appear in court on or before Jan. 20.
