In November, Denton’s voters made the North Texas city the first in the state to ban hydraulic fracturing, sending shockwaves across Texas. Worried that Denton’s actions could lead to similar bans in other cities, state officials vowed more oversight of the oil and gas industry. And it’s caused some leaders and lawmakers to question exactly how “local control” should apply.
