After declining to do so in the GOP primary for U.S. Senate, U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz on Wednesday endorsed his Texas colleague John Cornyn, who soundly defeated challenger and U.S. Rep. Steve Stockman on Tuesday night. 

“John is a friend and a good man,” Cruz wrote in a statement on his Facebook page. “He’s earned considerable respect in the Senate. We have not agreed on everything, but we have agreed on the vast majority of issues. Together, we’re a strong and effective team for Texas.”

The endorsement was first reported by The Washington Post. 

In the same post, Cruz also endorsed GOP gubernatorial candidate Greg Abbott and George P. Bush, the Republican candidate for land commissioner.

Cornyn will face a Democrat in November — either David Alameel or Kesha Rogers, who are headed for a May runoff.
