Sergio Garcia built a wide following for his regional Mexican cuisine over the decades, becoming a favorite of the White House press corps visiting Waco during the Bush presidency. Then in March, ICE came looking for him.

Starting from the bottom

Sergio Garcia got his first brick-and-mortar restaurant space in 1995 at 1725 Webster Avenue in a small space attached to Santo's Paint and Body shop, which is now home to Tenorio's Catering.

Catching fire

El Siete Mares moved into a larger space at 1915 Dutton Avenue in 1999. The building is now occupied by Jimenez Bakery.
