Zika virus no longer considered an “emergency”

The World Health Organization lifted its emergency classification for the Zika virus, saying it still poses a great public health threat but that it will best be addressed by sustained research.

Aedes aegypti mosquitoes can transmit the Zika virus, which has been linked to birth defects, to humans. Officials say there have been no cases of mosquito-to-human transmission in Texas.
