Groundwater Pumping Under Cities May Cause Health Problems
Cities that pump groundwater for their water supplies may damage water supplies and create dangerous health problems, according to a team of international scientists. The team, which includes a Texas A&M University researcher, concluded that shallow aquifers pose a particular risk because of industrial contaminants. Although the risk appears greatest in Southeast Asia, the study also cites groundwater pumping in Texas cities. (Texas A&M)
