Superbugs Discovered in Drinking Water in France
Researchers have discovered a drug-resistant "superbug," a form of antibiotic-resistant E. coli bacteria, in water samples from France. The research, which appeared in the journal Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy, was particularly alarming because it is believed to be the first such contaminated sample from a developed country, and scientists are speculating about the possible human transfer of resistant genes through drinking water in high-income countries.
