Getting Texas Republicans in Congress to say whether they’re backing Donald Trump is a bit like pulling teeth. 

A Texas Tribune review of the presidential preferences of the 27 Republicans in Texas’ congressional delegation reveals a far-from-united front behind the real estate mogul.

While the 11 Texas Democrats in Congress are now uniformly backing Hillary Clinton, the fractured state of those on the Republican side is striking. 

The most visible of the holdouts is U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, who bitterly clashed with Trump in the final weeks of the GOP presidential primary campaign. A handful of House Republicans from Texas also declined to say if they will even vote for Trump, including Kay Granger of Fort Worth, Mac Thornberry of Clarendon and Will Hurd of San Antonio. 

Most of the others are lining up behind Trump with all the enthusiasm of a trip to the dentist. Some said they will vote for him but not endorse him.
