Few States Meet Guidelines for In-School Physical Activity

Oregon and the District of Columbia are the only places in the country where public school physical education programs meet American Heart Association and the Society of Health and Physical Educators guidelines. Most U.S. schools do not meet the minimum guidelines for staying healthy. Under the new Every Student Succeeds Act, P.E. programs are now eligible for Title I funding, and there is some evidence that nonprofit programs are reaching more underserved students. (Slate)
