River Authority Buys Water Rights on the San Marcos River
Guadalupe-Blanco River Authority officials have purchased "vintage" water rights to the San Marcos River, giving them senior, or older, rights to the water and thus more influence over water usage in San Marcos. Water rights are determined by seniority, so the older the water right, the higher it is in priority over more "junior" water rights. The purchase price for the approximately 30 acre-feet — an acre across and a foot of the river’s depth — was estimated at over $200,000. (The University Star)
