A new gene-editing technique has been successful at loading a DNA-cutting system onto a virus that infected the muscle cells of mice, an important development in what may lead to new treatment for people with the most severe form of muscular dystrophy. The technique excised from the gene a defective stretch of DNA known as an exon, which then enabled the muscle cells to make a protein that gave the mice more strength, according to the new study.
