UT Southwestern Professor Wins $3M Breakthrough Prize
University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center professor Helen Hobbs on Sunday was named one of the winners of the $3 million Breakthrough Prize, the richest award handed out in the life sciences. She won for her work on identifying genetic mutations that affect levels of unhealthy LDL cholesterol. The prizes are the brainchild of Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg and his wife, who is a pediatrician. (STAT)
