Septic Tanks Not Keeping Contaminants Out of Lakes
A new study says that septic tanks are not preventing fecal bacteria from contaminating rivers and lakes. The study by Michigan State University, published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences — and the largest of its kind — found that septic systems are not keeping E. coli and other contaminants out of water supplies.
