Strict School Vaccination Law Passes in California

A freshman senator and pediatrician from Sacramento won an early career victory with the passing of Senate Bill 277, which eliminates the ability of parents to opt out of vaccinating schoolchildren.

A freshman state senator and pediatrician from Sacramento won an early career victory with the passing of Senate Bill 277, which eliminates the ability of California parents to opt out of vaccinating schoolchildren. California has long allowed parents to cite personal beliefs as valid reasoning for not vaccinating children who attend public schools, but the new law permits medical exemptions only.
