Wasting Water May Land Perpetrators in Jail

The city of Shasta Lake in California has determined that water-use violations constitute a misdemeanor punishable by fines of up to $1,000 or jail time up to 30 days, or both.

A measure approved by California's State Water Resources Control Board in July slapped fines of up to $500 on violations of restrictions on outdoor water use.
